13. Discuss Montag's relationship with Mildred. Is this a typical marital relationship in their culture? Discuss the role of family in the characters' lives, particularly in relation to the TV parlor "families" and their nature and function. Explain using specific examples from the text in your argument.
Mildred and Montag have been married for 10 years and their relationship is just like everyone elses in the town. Being married doesn't mean much but a roomate to live with. When Guy Montag gets home from his long day at the Fire Staion, he just climbs into bed without even waking his wife who is listening to the parlor or to music through a headpeace the whole night anyway. "He listened. The little mosquito-delicate dancing hum in the air, the electrical murmur of a hidden wasp snug in its special pink warm nest. The music was almost loud enough so he could follow the tune." They don't talk about important things and the couple isn't even positive about how they met. Relationships in their culture is less romantic as it is in ours. They don't focus on eachother and Montag, according to Clarisse McClellan isn't even in love with Millie. When Clarisse and Montag first meet, she asks him if he is in general happy. "'Are you happy?' she said. 'Am I what?' But she was gone-running in the moonlight. Her front door shut gently." "Happy! Of all the nonsense.' He stopped laughing."..."Of course I'm happy. What does she think? I'm not? he asked the quiet rooms" Not actually thinking about it Montag responds and says that he is, but with later thought he realizes that he isn't and there's a lot more to life then he knows. "He was not happy. He was not happy. He said the words to himself. He recognized this as the true state of affairs. He wore his happiness like a mask and the firl had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of going to knock on her door and ask for it back." Montag does love Millie but is also searching for something more because he doesn't feel happy and after buring the woman and her books hes more lost and confused than ever. The books keep Montag thinking and curious about what they were and what was so important. He wondered why someone would give up their life for a book. Millie didn't understand this and she was so brainwashed by society that she thought it was wrong to even think about books. Millie, like all her girl riends sit at home in a room surrounded by three "walls" or televisions. The show is interactive and they have a small role in the show. Millie does not know much outside of this room. "It's only tow thousand dollars,' she replied. 'And I should think you'd concider me sometimes. If we had a fourth wall, why it'd be just like this room wasn't ours at all, but all kinds of exotic people's rooms. We could do without a few things." She is very concerned will surrounding herself with this different life, watching shows instead of living her own life.
Montag and his wife's relationship seems distant but at the same time they do care for eachother I think they have just lost ways to show it but as Guy Montag is away from Millie he starts to realize and face his feelings. "'My wife's back there." "I'm sorry to hear that. The cities won't do well in the next few days." said Granger. "It's strange, I don't miss her, it's strange I don't feel much of anything." said Montag." Even while the war destroyed the city he didn't feel anything for Millie or even miss being with her. But it does get Montag does begin to remember more about how they met and fell "in love". "I remember. Montag clung to the earth. I remember. Chicafo. CHicago a long time ago. Millie and I. That's where we met! I remember now. Chicago. A long time ago." I think this was a very large turning point for Montag because he realizes and remembers important parts in his life that he has forgotten because of his boring routine and the way the government has essencially brain washed people into staying home and having small talk. Not talking about anyting important because all topics are feared. I think this is why the culture that Millie and Montag live in don't have the same type of relationships as we do.

TU Tuesday- Local
Go to http://www.timesunion.com and read a LOCAL article there. Then, convince me you read the article, understood what you read, understood the prompt below I asked you to think about as you read, and wrote a thoughtful response, using support (direct quotes) from the article in your response. Please call your blog response TU Tuesday - Local, put a working link to the article you read and are responding to, address the instructions in yellow below, and use support from the article you read in the form of FOUR direct quotes.
Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text.
The theme in the text is about taxes and if increasing the minimum wage is beneficial to the economy. From reading the text, I learned that small businesses are the ones with the minimum wage, it also states that small businesses spend most of their money in the town which helps keep other small companies in business.
This shows that people are still in debt and still cutting back on what they buy because the price of everything continuies ot increase. Gas and College prices are an all time high and I think that New Yorkers need to catch a break either through tax cuts or the increase in minimum wage.

The theme in the text is about taxes and if increasing the minimum wage is beneficial to the economy. From reading the text, I learned that small businesses are the ones with the minimum wage, it also states that small businesses spend most of their money in the town which helps keep other small companies in business.
"Silver has argued a minimum wage hike will inject money into local economies because earners on the lowest end of the economic ladder spend the money they have near their own homes. It would be a sort of mini-stimulus, the speaker said. It would help small businesses create more jobs. While labor groups support the proposal, business lobbyists oppose it." But people with the most pull in high levels of companies do not think it's a good idea because that is a loss for them concidering they are the ones paying their employees the minimum wage and would be losing money if the minimum wage increased.
The tax package is seen at the Capitol as a counterpoint to Silver's plan to raise the minimum wage $1.25 per hour, to $8.50, a boost that passed the Assembly earlier this month". The article also talks about tax cuts but they only benefit the people and as a whole the united states would lose millions of dollars a year. "The package would cost the state up to $130 million this year and $1 billion within four years" In towns the local business are trying very hard to stay open even when there is a bigger company that might sell the same thing for less, but its a different way of doing business. The quality of the local business might be better because they are making the objects on a smaller scale. This is also why we need to lower taxes because small businesses are struggling to compete with these other companies. "We have to continue to do this. As we move into our summer recess, it's critically important that we cut taxes, especially on small businesses, as soon as possible." There was a poll for the New York Voters and here are the results:
78% of New York voters support a minimum wage hike, including
58% of self-identified Republicans, and that
65% of voters support a package of tax cuts and credits, including
64% of self-identified Democrats.
This shows that people are still in debt and still cutting back on what they buy because the price of everything continuies ot increase. Gas and College prices are an all time high and I think that New Yorkers need to catch a break either through tax cuts or the increase in minimum wage.

9.Why do veterans deserve respect?
Veterans deserve respect for many resasons. Yes, there has been a draft in the past where you had to go serve time in war not matter what, but right now our country is being protected by the ones that volunteer their time to keep the United States safe and for the most part, peaceful. The veterans have done so much for us by doing one thing we would never be able to return or give back, they are risking their lives or have risked their lives to do what they feel is right. I think that anyone who chooses to do this is a hero and deserves everyone living in the U.S.'s respect. To leave your family for who knows how long and not to be in constant contact with them is very hard in itself and I think that people don't alwasy realize how much someone in the war is giving up to be ther and how unselfish the act is. This is why I think that all veterans deserve respect.

What is Crippling Us?
John Taylor Gatto talks about public education and he proves these theories by using the work of ancient philosophers He talks bad about schools in many different ways. He talks about the classes that children are put in, the way that they are seperated, and how children are not worked to the best of their ability anymore. Gatto says that putting children with children and spending time with adolesents all day keeps children from growing up and being responsible, "Theorists from Plato to Rousseau to our own Dr. Inglis knew that if children could be cloistered with other children, stripped of responsibility and independence, encouraged to develop only the trivializing emotions of greed, envy, jealousy, and fear, they would grow older but never truly grow up." I disagree with this quote. School is supposed to help us grow up and work on our own. Its supposed to teach us to advocate for ourself and get the grades we deserve while working as hard as we can. Although the grades don't always show how the teacher teaches or how well the student knows the lesson, the tests are an unfair way to assess a student. Teachers now a days are teaching to the test insead of teaching for the children to get smarter in every day life. "Who wouldn't get bored teaching students who are rude and interested only in grades? If even that. Of course, teachers are themselves products of the same twelve-year compulsory school programs that so thoroughly bore their students, and as school personnel they are trapped inside structures even more rigid than those imposed upon the children. Who, then, is to blame?" Teachers get bored teaching the same thing over and over, teaching for the children to complete a final exam to decide if they pass the class or not. This can get especialy boring if children aren't getting the lesson or don't understand.
Ray Bradbury
In Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury uses persuasion through the characterGuy Montag. He tries to explain to people the way he felt when that woman took her own life for the books, he wants to know what is in the books that is so special. "You weren't there, you didn't see," he said. "There must be something in books, something we can't imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing." this shows me that hes very interested and Montag is telling his wife all of this because he doesn't understand but she understands less than him.
Another way Ray Bradbury shows this in his books is when Guy goes to Fabers house (the college professor) to see if a book can be copied because there are very very limited amounts of the Bible, Shakespear and Plato left in the world. Guy has to return the "only" book he has to the boss at the fire station tomorrow and he wants to make a copy to be one of the only people to have it. Instead Guy and Faber are coming up with a plan, "Plant the books, turn in an alarm, and see the firemaen's houses burn, is that what you mean? this is how he wants to stop the way things are going by getting rid of all the firemen and maybe saving books. He has to persuade Faber to do it though because they will both be in danger of getting burned.
"Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them at all. The magis is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us"

Tired and True

It's his eighth birthday and the theme is cars, I was picked up from Party City four days ago, but I wasn't stuffed full of candy until three days before. I've never been as full as this, but I'm beginning to get nervous. I've herd stories about the ones that leave and never come back, how they go through brutial beatings and then there never seen again. Am I going to be another story?
The party starts at 4 and I wipe the sweat from my brow because its already 5 and I haven't even been touched. I'm sure they've forgotten about me by now and will soon move on to pin the wheel on the car and eat some cake. But when will I know? I hear them talking about baseball bats and about the candy and I'm waiting for my time to come.
Being hung is like surrendering to the twelve 8 year olds running around and swinging at me blindly. As much as it hurts, I know I have to stay strong and not get beaten down too quickly. One by one my chocolate filled insides slowly falls as each kid gets one hit at my racecar expterior. Before long my doors and bottom was completely detached and the candy rained to the ground getting attacked by the children grabing and shoving to get the best candies.
Once a beautiful car, im now broken and nothing. left for trash.

TU Tuesday - Commencement Speech
"I didn't go to college here, I didn't go to college at all. I'm not saying you wasted your time or money, but look at me I'm a huge celeberty" I agree with this. In this day and age, you don't have to be anyone important or even that smart to make millions of dollars, that is if you play your cards right. Celeberties in famous movies or maybe even on a reality tv show, didn't have to go to college you can just have a pretty face and know the right people to be "successful".
"I had this secret that I was keeping that I was gay, and i thought if people found out, they wouldn't like me or wouldn't laugh at me." I understand that people feel this way, in 2009, being gay wasn't that acceptable and it would be very different for people to accept other people being gay. I think that now in these past years we are coming out of that and now that gay marriage is legal, we do not judge people for coming out and saying they are gay. I just wish that more people felt comfortable to be who they want to be.
"I realized I had a purpose" I love this quote because everyone has a purpose in life. I believe that everyone is here on earth for a reason and we have to find that by doing what we love and following our heart. Ellen also said "when I look back on it, I wouldn't change a thing... Ive realized that the most important thing is to be true to yourself" i also agree with this because
JK Rowling "the first step to success is to make achieveable goals" everyone makes goals that are unreachable. In order to believe in yourself and grow you have to be able to reach your goals. I agree with Rowling when she says this because we have all wanted to be able to do something so bad that we make goals that are maybe impossible for us physically mentally or just in the amount of time, we can not reach it. So in order to grow you need to be able to create achieveable goals.

85 How I Went From Very Shy to Less Shy
Ever since I was younger I've been very shy. My parents would tell me to go over and talk to another younger girl and I would refuse. I always liked to stay close to my family or sister rather than going and talking to other girls my age. I always loved my friends and hanging out with them but I never really moved outside of my circle. But the day I turned "less Shy" I tell everyone it was the day I cut my hair. Before freshman year I cut my hair so short and died it darker than it was. I wanted and needed change and I think that it helped me become who I wanted to be instead of being who I've always been. Moving into the high school was a big deal and I just wanted to go with a fresh mind and attitude and that's what I did. The hair was more symbolic than the fact that most of my hair was gone. It was a new me.

Love to Know Slideshow
Face the Day
What is your mood like when you wake up in the morning? Do you have any special rituals, such as reading the newspaper while enjoying a cup of coffee, that help you get ready for the responsibilities of the day?
Every night I turn on my four alarms that will wake me up the next morning. The alarm set for 5:48 gets shut off immediately and im back asleep for another 12 minutes before my 6:00 alarm goes off warning me that I will soon have to get up to start my day. Another two alarms later, I finally drag myself out of bed at 6:22 the perfect amount of time to get ready. Depending on whihc house im at, I have different routines but all in all, they are the same. I go to the bathroom to do my hair and get ready, after I find what to wear its about time to leave so I brush my teeth (I can't go anywhere with out brushing!) and collect my bags. I feel like I always have to grab extra clothes and sneakers for softball, gym or dance. But just before I leave I make coffee for my sister and I in our to go mugs to get us ready for the day. If I'm at my moms I don't make coffee because its never as good as the peppermint flavored creamer I have at my dads. I also eat my breakfast first block enjoying the egg sandwich that my dad cooks each morning for my sister, step mom, himself and I. Clearly he's up a little earlier than I. Every day is started the same but it ends completely different. I love not knowing where the day will bring me having it be a good day with things just going well for me. As I get older I realize how quickly time goes by even this school year just flew by and it teaches you that you can't take a stationary stance on life and you have to do what makes you happy. You have to go where life takes you.

Philosophical Idea
Materialism is the philosophical theory that regards matter and its motions as constituting the universe, and all phenomena, including those of mind, as due to material agencies. Karl Marx was one of the first men to create and believe in this theory. "Individuals who hold to this belief see the universe as a huge device held together by pieces of matter functioning in subjection to naturalistic laws." I do not agree with Materialism because I think that in life there are so many more things than money and physical objects. I believe that there is a higher spirit that is there for us when we think we need help or when we don't realize the help that we need. I also believe that relationships and peoples energies are what makes life have a purpose and also makes us happy.

TU Tuesday- Classified
Walking through the woods I pass a trailer with for sale signs plastered everywhere. The family inside seems too big for this little house. Through the window i see a dimly lit kitchen table with three kids and a mother huddled around seeming to enjoy the meal along with the company of eachother. The trailer which is advertised as "spacious" seems too small for the four of them. As they walk to the kitchen, they have to take turns so they can fit through the hallway. Bumping into eachother as they are transient from the :nice kitchen with cabinets above and below, 3-burner stove with oven, microwave, full-size fridge" to the dining/living room. The two bedrooms are large enogh for the family to rest peacefully and theres an "awning, large slide, a/c, sliding glass main door" that connects the house to the outdoors. The family of four seems to be in the lower class but in here, it seems they are happy but are ready for a stable home that is located in a neighborhood with neighbors and an address rather than "on a huge lot in a wooded campground, all hooked up!"

T=The Seven Layers
The Seven Layers
Ingredients
Ingredients
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees F for glass baking pan). In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and butter; mix well. Press crumb mixture firmly on bottom of 13x9-inch baking pan.
- Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with remaining ingredients; press down firmly with fork.
- Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Chill if desired. Cut into bars or diamonds. Store covered at room temperature.
This recipe is an instant flood of memories. It reminds me of my relatives who live in Minnesota and the weekends we would spend doing crafts at my grandmas house on Lake Superior. The Seven Layers is a desert we all make whenever we are together. The first time that I have ever made The Seven Layers was the day of my aunts birthday (The Birthday tradition is making the bars rather than a cake). That day my uncle and I got up early, like we always do, read the paper and got started on our crossword puzzle that never seems to get finished. We walked to the store because my uncle enjoys the exercise and we had to get all the ingredients. By the time we got back my cousin and sister were awake and making my aunt breakfast and a card. The bars were a group effort rushing to get them done before my aunt woke up. The night was finished off with the bars which made the night special and obviously they turned out wonderful! This recipe will always remind me of my family in Minnesota and the birthdays that we spend all day prepping for, celebrating and baking. I love the movie nights before and the early morning walks, the view of the lake and spending time with family that I don't always get to see.

Famous Poem Starters
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep
The knowing keeps me awake
For the time I have to take
Each stride that follows
The truth gets even harder to swallow
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep
The wind pushes me forward
But the journey seems to move backward
Stunned by the truth
My lips release the proof.

Nursery Rhymes ARE Relevant to Life
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~pfa/dreamhouse/nursery/rhymes/comin.html
This nursery rhyme; She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain will soon relate to my life. When I listen to it now I think about seeing someone very important after a period of time. I always love and look forward to reunions with people that I haven't seen in a while. I have recently been thinking about the future and how my sister will very soon be leaving for college. But this song reminds me of all the times that she will be coming home for holidays and to visit or the times that maybe I will have a chance to fly and visit her at whatever school she chooses. The words "She'll be comin' round the mountain" relates to her turning a corner into my eyesight or maybe the fact that she has to fly a few hours before she is home. And the lyrics "And we'll all go out to meet greet her when she comes" helps me in vision the emotional reunion of all of us seeing my sister, Anna, at the same time for the first time. This song relates to my life and the reunion of important people.

long enough to connect
an impression can be changed in a moment

How Do You Feel About The Holdiays?
Personally I love the holidays! The food, the family gatherings and the presents! Thanksgiving is a fun time to get together and talk about everything that has happened during the year and just catch up on our fast moving lives. Christmas is a time of giving and watching the expressions on peoples faces when they open your presents. And for the religious people, Its for a time to remember and honor their religion. Holidays are ment to be happy times for you to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. This is why I love holidays, I love seeing my aunts, uncles and cousins that visit from out of state and even meeting the new members of the family! The holiday can be as big or small as you make it and I love to make them fun and exciting. I'm always counting down the days:)

S=Standard
My restaurant is the Standard, it's located in Crossgates Mall. I have never been to the Standard but I hear its really good, it's a Bar and a Restaurant. It's said to have a fun and friendly atmosphere and great music playing all the time. A wide vairety of food for apps, entree's and desert. But I also read about the really busy waiting room due to the location in the mall and the long time it takes to get food. Also the over priced meals seemed to turn people off. The reviews that I read didn't all agree with eachother so I would say try it for yourself but a helpful hint is to avoid the Standard on a really busy Friday or Saturday because it could effect the quality of the food. But it could also be a great and tasty experience.

The Book That Changed My Life
One of my newest favorite series is the Hunger Games. I read all the books while on the beach in St John and flew right threw them. The first book is my favorite. One of the reasons I really like the book is because its not a genre that I would usually read. Also I loved how much communities came together and supported the two kids fighting till death. I also liked the way the book portrayed the government because some people could aruge there arent many differences. The plot doesnt directly relate to my life but the characters I think do. I can see my sister doing the same thing Katnis did by volunteering to take my place. I can also see my close family friends doing all they could to sponcer me to keep me alive. I really liked this book because it showed two young people trying to change the way everyones life has been for the past how ever many years and stand up against the government and, they were successful. It was moving and a very suspensful book.

7. Own a house on a beach- I go to Maine almost every summer and I always imagine owning one of the houses on Wells Beach so I would like to own one and have people rent it out or a place for my whole family to come.
8. Go New Orleans for Mardi Gras- I love big celebrations and I think it would be so fun to go to New Orleans to see the culture and the parades with all the people.
9. Go on a road trip cross country- I have driven to florida with my family and thats long but I would love to drive to California on back roads and see all different places on the way passing through so many different states.
10.Sail a Sail Boat- I love boats and I would like to get my captains liscense and learn how to sail a sail boat so I could spend days on the ocean.
2. Travel to Europe- I love traveling and its a dream to travel all over the world and I definatley want to travel all over europe.
3. Run a half marathon - I have been running a lot more lately and I think working toward a goal keeps you on track so I think running a half marathon is a goal I could reach.
4. Scuba dive at a shipwreck - My family and I are certified to scuba dive and we love doing it and I have been to St john and dove but I would really like to see a sunken ship.

I watch Marissa's back as she walks away, I know I will not see her again. Our lives have brought us in seperate directions. The day moves slowly, just like I had imagined. The job I used to love has lost it's spark and my friends just dont seem as fun. But I talk to your photos hoping to hear your voice in reply. But your sound is fading.
I call you, but your answering machine says "you have reached 234-8764" Not even a glimpse of you .
The letter you send has no detail, just saying that your okay. The photos though, they tell a different story. The pictures send meaning and the hope that you will return. The hope that you are growing and having a good time in your journey. I look at your pictures, waiting, hoping to see you again.

TU Tuesday- Crime
What are the consequences for drunk driving and why did this man get his liscense suspended for 15 years and five years of probation?
In the article "Nebraska man gets probation for naked joyride" a man gets arrested for six months because he was driving under the influence. Due to his two previous offences, he has his liscense taken away for 15 years and five years of probation. Nebraska law says that "Nebraska, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08% or higher. Doing so makes you guilty of DUI, even if your driving appears to be safe. " this is just like many other states but it shows that this man was not driving safe and the beer cans in the back didn't help. This Nebraskan man had two previous arrests and because of this..."First offenders - 60 days with probation, 6 months with jail time, Second offenders - 1 year either way, Third and fourth offenders - 1 year with probation, 15 years with jail time" This is why he got in so much trouble. Distractions while driving have been increasing since technology has been increasing. Kids are also beininng to drink earlier and DUI's seem to be happening more. "Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and one out of three of those is alcohol related. Kids who start drinking young are seven times more likely to be in an alcohol-related crash." DUI's are serious and I think that anyone who decides to drink and drive should be punished to the maximum. "Accidents related to drunk driving take place every 45 minutes in the US."

Scruples
3. A neighbor’s six year old child finds $30 on your driveway and gives it to you. No one claims it. Do you give the money to the child?
I always try to do what I believe even though it may or may not be the "right" thing to do, but I would give the money to the child. In this situation I think that it's the "right" choice and just what I believe I should do. I would give the money back because noone has claimed it, and I wasn't the one who found it, the child did so it's theirs. The child also did the right thing by giving the money to me and not just taking it for themself automatically so I think getting the money would be a good reward for the child.

My Blog Idea
I think for a blog idea we could all talk about something we wish we did more as a young child and why. We can talk about games, friends, family trips but just something we didnt do as much as we may have wanted.
Something I wish I had done more as a child is simple. I wish I got my clothes dirty and played in the mud. I don't know why I didn't do it more I was just always worried about my clothes and the fact that I knew they would be ruined if I slid in the mud. But now when I think about it, I always think of how fun that could have been or the fun things that I missed out on and one of them is playing in the mud, Im not saying I missed out on a lot but I think I always worried about how i looked or having to go home and show my mom my shirt. I think that when your a kid you should live as a kid and not wish your childhood away. Doing the little things help you do that and I think kids appreciate the little things more than adults.

Revisions
Kate - both of your poems tell a story. In the first, it's a destruction of a building, and of a person, and who knows what else? In the second, you recount the details of the home in which you live. You have a strong sense of storytelling, and the narrative in both are intriguing. The poems feel more like prose than poetry, though, because you tackle so much, try to tell so much. Why not focus on one thing and expand that image. In Child's Walk, why not focus on the medals on the wall or the pancake aroma? Expand the image, give it a lot of detail, see if you can make us feel what you feel by examining just one thing.

The Building
Sadly,
It reminds me of him.
Everything reminds me of him.
The sounds on the inside echo the past 18 months
my imagination of the blood and tears that were shed
make me shiver
The outside portrays the parts we don’t see.
The memories they bring home
But you didn’t.
No one is lucky
I am not lucky
This reminds me of you its brand new
so young
but is so worn
the cover still looks calm and happy
even after the hurricane swept through
even after there was no one to take care of it
even when sights and sounds could have wrecked it,
it stood
you stood
It took only a short time to destruct
would have happened to anything
your outside finally caught up with you
the pain was out of anyone’s control
it fell
and so did you.
Revised: The Building
I worry when you're away,
it reminds me of you
untouched and brand new
too young to be on your own.
Its calm and poised
just like you
The siding is bright and clean
Your skin only scared from playing outside
I worry when you're away,
inside is old and worn
while the outside hides the dangers,
the ones we've never herd of
anything could have wrecked it,
could have wrecked you.
your now rough skin is only seen photographs
you seem so distant
It was strong
It stood after the hurricane
It learned to stand alone
it was strong
you were strong
it destructed.
you destructed.
we destructed.
I worry when you're away
I like the other poem better so this was hard for me to change it, there was so much I wanted to keep in from the origional so trying to change it was difficult. I was also trying to do what she was suggesting but I wasn't exactly clear I tried to make it more of the same theme.
Childs Walk
As I roll over in bed the sun shining through my almost
opaque curtains wakes me up
Its not yet quarter to eight but I slide my feet into the slippers who are patiently awaiting my company
The morning dew is still covering the grass,as the mail man casually glides up our front steps
I can smell the pancakes being cooked from rooms away, the aroma making my stomach growl
As I pass from room to room I can't help but look at the same dresser, the same picture frame and the same rocking chair that I do every other morning.
But today, today is different
Today I linger in our family room a minute longer taking notice to the metals hanging on our walls
I glance at the lamp and wonder where it came from.
Was it hand made in Germany or an maybe an engagement gift?
The room seems so foreign yet I walk through it every day
never really taking notcie to the tiny detals.
The house I’ve lived in for nine years suddenly feels unfamiliar.
Revised: Childs Walk
Pride
Today for the first time I am looking
the metals hanging on the wall ,
round and smooth, perfection
cold like the tile floor
I outline my mothers name carved into the edge,
the once bright red ribbon
is now dulled and fraying from the ware of pride
the metal is filled with hard work and dedication
and the school record holder
the metals meaning so much more than first place
the shiny polished metals reflect the light
making them gleam in the sun
still the metals shine of her accomplishments
and
Pride
I like this revised poem better because its more specific and has more of a point rather than discussing everything that fits in the topic of a childs walk. This helped me narrow it down and describe specific things about the metals.

R= Eight People to Emulate
1. Jenna Robinson- I know Jenna through school and cross country and she has alopecia and she is a beautiful girl that doesn't need to hide who she is by wearing a wig. Jenna can teach us to love who we are no matter how we differ from others on the outside.
2. Gianna Rodino- Gianna was a good friend of my sister and her mom and my mom are also friends, I've known Gianna for a while and I know that she doesn't want to find out if she has the Huntington's disease because she lost one of the most important people in her life, her sister. Gianna can give strength to anyone.
3. Richard Barton- Richard is my uncle and a few years ago he was diagnosed with stage four colo-rectus cancer. This was heartbreaking for all of us but he was the one with the positive attitude and I believe that thats what got him through all of the chemo. He has kept a level head and has been praticing positive montras. I think hes an inspiration to tell us as bad as things get, there not that bad.
4. Randi Peterson- Randi is my cousin and she has been through tough times with her famiy ever since she was a kid. Randi got pregnant 6 years ago and the dad left her on her own to raise a baby boy, luckly she has grown to become an amazing person and has begun to do things for herself as in get healthy and lose weight. Randi can teach us to have the strength and knowledge to overcome obsticles in life.
5. Russ Peterson- My uncle Rusty was an alcoholic and addicted to gambeling until he was so low that he realized he needed to get help and stop. He sobered up and became a working man and restoring the relationship with his family. I think that he teaches us that if you reach your low you dont have to stay there, theres something better out there for your life.
6. Robin Williams- Is an actor in Mrs Doubtfire and this is one of my families all time favorite movies and I jsut think he portrays an amazing character with love for children and I also think that in life we need to look at the humorous side of things more often and he does that.
7. Ronni Peterson- Ronni is also my cousin and Ive always looked up to her for everything and I can't wait to go to Minnesota and visit her, she has always been one of my role models because shes sweet and has a big heart to where she loves her nephew and also sits down with my grandma with alzheimer's disease and talks to her for hours. She is so pretty she's just been someone I trust and want to be.
8. Rachel Ray- Rachel Ray is a very successful woman. I tihnk that she shows us power by her successes as a chef, designer of cookware and a talk show host. I watch her and I love her giddy attitude and the way she portrays herself. Rachel can teach us to be what others may not expect.

Valentine's Day
Imagine a world where everyone loved their neighbor as much as they loved themselves. What would it be like to live in such a world? How would families and communities be changed?
Even if we don't all recognize it, we all love ourselves more than anyone. We are taught to love and respect others as much or more than ourselvs, but that doesn't always work. In a perfect world with perfect people we would all get along and there would be no fighting or war. We wouldn't have to fear others or the criticism of others. We could be free to be anyone we wanted and feel how ever we felt. I think that if we loved our neighbors as much as we love ourself, we would be happy, everyone would be happy and know that there is love and support all around them. We would all know that there is peace and there is a place for all of us to love peacefully in this world families wouldn't have to worry about their children all the time and communities wouldn't have as much crime because we would all be looking out for eachother and helping eachother out because we would love eachother.

When the alarm clock rings
The alarm clock cannot defend itself
from the monster it awakes.
The ringing of my alarm is sharp and
Its impossible to sleep through.
My eyelids are too heavy,
for my weakened body to open. The sun hasnt even shed its rays of light
as i open the curtains all i see is the dark morning
dew covering the ground and fog spreading into the woods.
The morning moves slowly
but all too quickly at the same time,
days,weeks, months and years pass
but every morning the same alarm clock rings,
the same feeling of fatigue passes
as i struggle to open my eyes and begin another day
I am slow to sit up in bed and
not thrilled to start the day before seven
from the monster it awakes.
The ringing of my alarm is sharp and
Its impossible to sleep through.
My eyelids are too heavy,
for my weakened body to open. The sun hasnt even shed its rays of light

Comic Connection
This comic relates to me because dogs are a large part of my everyday life. Between my two houses, I have five dogs and my family loves having pets and rescuing them from bad homes. Dogs are cute, loyal, cuddly, and always want attention. five out of the five always want to be touched and or have a body laying next to them. This comic reminds me of my puppies because all they ever want is to be touched and we jsut throw a hand down, or tell them to move on to the next person if there bugging us, but this comic has roles reversed, and that the dog is patting the human on the head for doing somehting good. I can imagine that this is how our dogs feel when we pat them on the head or smother them with love because of the size differentce between us and the little 20lb dogs. The dog could also represent us bugging our dogs while there doing something they think is important or even sleeping.

"Hi-five yourself"
The Hall's cough drop wrapers have inspirational quotes to get the ones feeling ill, out of their slump. One of the quotes that I chose was "Hi-five yourself". I chose this because it relates to my life. I think people in your life come and go as they please, they don't always care about your feelings and arent always sensative to things your going through. Everyone of us are trying to work hard to accomplish things of all sizes and importances but the people in your life don't always care or know what your going through. Its still important to do your best and push through the hardships, when you do this there will be someone to congradulate your but when others arent there for you, its your job to pat yourself on the back or hi-five yourself to assure yourself that you accomplished something great.

Lonely Hearts Club: Sweet Choco loves balls, seeks home
"Pssst. I’ll tell you a secret if you promise not to tell my dogs I told you." Personification: Giving something human equalities
"The staff named him Choco because, as they put it, he’s sweeter than the finest chocolate" Metaphor: Comparing two things by using one kind of object or using in place of another to suggest the likeness between them.
"I promise your heart will melt faster than a Hershey’s Kiss in a chocolate fondue." Metaphor: Comparing two things by using one kind of object or using in place of another to suggest the likeness between them.
"Sweet Choco loves balls, seeks home" is about a dog Choco who is a pitbull mix at the Hudsen Mohawk Humane Society. Choco is having troubles getting adopted due to his breed but in reality he is the sweetest dog that is so friendly, "He gave ma a big smile and ambled over wagging his tail to give me some kisses" says ryan. This shows that when using figurative language it makes it seem like the readers want to see the dog to get the same attention and that everyone should want or even need Choco in their life. The figurative language in this article really helps to get the love and attention of the readers because they are promoting the adoption of a dog. And in order to "sell a product" you need to grab the readers heart and attention. This article did just that stating "he’s sweeter than the finest chocolate".

Original Poems III
HISTORENGA
Meat Packing
A time when food was scarce
Men working in factories
Government had too much control
And living conditions were inhumane
Propaganda made the war glorious
New York's economy was at a low
Upton St. Claire exposed the terrors
The secrets behind the meat packing industry
RAINBOW POEM
Camping
Red as the setting sun
Orange as life vest
Yellow as the fire
Green as the kayak
Blue as the fire
Indigo as the night sky
Violet as the tent
After the long day
of paddling down the river
star gazing was much needed
the tent cozy enough for sleep
and fire providing the heat
and snacks of smores and popcorn
surrounded by nature
TERZANELLE
Is glued to the teenagers hand
Something you make sure you hace before you leave
where you can search anything even your teachers band
if lost or broken would make you grieve
comparing the width and quality of the touch screen
something you make sure you have before you leave
The parents taking it away to be mean
the covers shiny, colorful or plain
comparing the width and quality of the touch screen
although the olnly it doesnt work is on an airplane
when it falls your heart drops and your in shock
the covers shiny, colorful or plain
no need for a watch when one click can find you a digital clock
spell check making spelling easier for all
when it falls your heart drops and your in schock
always intouch and talking about the latest drama at the mall
never leaves the teenagers hand
spell check making it easier for all
where you can search anything even your teachers band

Questioning Something in Nature
SPRINGBOARD POEM
SPRINGBOARD POEM
The rain
I asked the spring grass why it needed so much rain
It swayed in the wind for a while before answering,
a squeeky voice replied softly "Ask the flowers"
As i inched toward the daffodil, I noticed the petals,
seeming as if her yellow color was fading, so I asked
"Can you make it through the spring with out rain" And
her reply was stunning.
Her old voice creeked, implying a life of wear, she simply
said "no". The answer brought shock but i was intreged at how
wise the grass and daffodil both sounded.
Each day I see the trees stretching, the grass sprouting
and flowers blooming. Each day i ask " are you growing because of the rain"
there response always the same, "you will see"
waiting for the rain I noticed their growth slowing down,
They pleaded that I don't give them water, but why
One spring morning I rose to a down pour.
Worried about the newly birthed flowers I ran to the window,
To my suprise the flowers, the trees and the grass
were all singing and dancing, answering my question.
They were right I did see.

Puppy
New,
Still clumsey,
Paws too big,
Teeth sharper than razors
People are more than exciting
Naping during the day
Curiousity takes over
loved.
I Am
I am an optomistic girl
I see the deer leap into the black woods.
I hear the sound of the waves crashing ashore
I see a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk
I pretend death doesnt exist
I feel my curly hair fall to my back
I touch the soft fur of the puppy
I worry about others more than myself
I understand that this world is not perfect .
I dream of traveling the world
I try accomplish everything that I wish
I am an optomisitc girl

Original Poems I
Concrete
Base Ball round
fits nicely in his,
long, lankey fingers
dulled white with red laces
comes screaming at the batter
the bat misses the curve ball
he makes contact, foul
strike three snaps,
glove closes
we win

10. MUNDANE
Candle
The wax
colored,
scented
the tall ones
stretching high
on the dinner table
displayed
on a glass pedistal.
fat ones
covering up
everyday odors
Smelling like pine cones
apples or the summer breeze
The small ones
can float forever
spreading light
perfect gifts
perfect mood.
Spring board poem
I Am
I am my self
I see things others don't
I hear country songs on the radio
I see barn reminding me of my childhood
I pretend to act like i don't care
I feel the hot floors with my bare feetI touch the soft fur of my dog laying next to me
I worry that I will miss the important things in life
I understand that people change
I dream of an ideal world
I try to think of others
I am myself
